ABOUT CLIENT
AND OBJECTIVES

Maintaining enterprise-scale analytics accuracy, enabling organization-wide adoption of GA4, modernizing data infrastructure for AI-driven insights, and ensuring compliance with evolving privacy and measurement standards.

VANS is an iconic American footwear, apparel, and accessories brand founded in Anaheim, California, in 1966 and owned by VF Corporation. Originally rooted in skateboarding culture, Vans has grown into a globally recognized lifestyle brand that champions creative self-expression, authenticity, and individuality. The brand continues to celebrate its deep connections to action sports, art, music, and street culture while inspiring generations of consumers around the world.

client Challenges

Analytics at Scale
VANS operates a large, complex digital estate. With 200+ custom events and parameters across the GA4 implementation, maintaining consistent naming conventions, data layer integrity, and eCommerce tracking accuracy is a permanent operational challenge, not something you solve once and leave.
Changing Measurement Landscape
Over the years, the measurement landscape has also shifted dramatically. The sunset of Universal Analytics, the rise of browser based data loss, tightening consent regulations, and the growing role of AI in media buying have each demanded a deliberate response. Staying ahead of these shifts while keeping a large scale implementation stable requires the kind of institutional knowledge that only builds over time.
Organization Wide GA4 Adoption
Out of the box, GA4 rarely meets the needs of a global enterprise brand. Making it accessible and trustworthy for non technical business teams, marketers, merchandisers, and leadership, requires careful structuring, clean reporting layers, and an ongoing commitment to data quality that teams can actually rely on.
Ad Platform Performance
As Meta, TikTok, and Google’s advertising systems rely increasingly on first party signals and AI optimization, the quality of data feeding those platforms has a direct impact on ROAS. Gaps in conversion data, consent driven data loss, and disconnected eCommerce signals are not just analytics problems. They are revenue problems.

Solution

Analytics Strategy

  • Enterprise GA4 governance across 200+ events, parameters, and enhanced eCommerce tracking
  • Server-side tracking implementation to improve data completeness and measurement resilience
  • Privacy-focused measurement framework with Consent Mode v2
  • First-party data collection and platform signal enrichment for marketing optimization
  • Third-party tag and integration management to maintain data quality and site performance
  • Analytics infrastructure built for AI-powered reporting, attribution, and machine learning use cases
  • GA4 enablement across marketing, eCommerce, and leadership teams

Our approach has evolved continuously since 2020, keeping pace with both VANS’ needs and the wider changes in digital measurement.

We maintain and continuously audit VANS’ GA4 event taxonomy, covering more than 200 events and parameters, to ensure consistent naming conventions and reliable data layer implementation across all digital touchpoints. This includes full enhanced eCommerce tracking across the purchase funnel, product interactions, and custom dimensions. As the measurement ecosystem has evolved, ongoing governance has been critical to maintaining data quality and consistency at enterprise scale.

To address growing challenges around browser restrictions, ad blockers, and cookie deprecation, we implemented server side Google Tag Manager. Moving critical tracking infrastructure away from the browser significantly reduced data loss while improving both data completeness and site performance.

As privacy requirements became increasingly important, we introduced Consent Mode v2 to help maintain meaningful measurement in cookieless and restricted consent environments. This allows VANS to continue collecting valuable insights while supporting user privacy and regulatory compliance.

We also developed user provided data collection pipelines and custom data imports that connect VANS’ eCommerce platform and key marketing tools, including Meta Ads and TikTok Ads, directly into GA4. This enriches the data available for campaign optimization and strengthens the connection between advertising activity and on site customer behaviour.

Alongside these initiatives, we manage VANS’ full Google Tag Manager container, ensuring third party tags and integrations remain clean, performant, and free from issues that could negatively impact data quality or page load speed.

As AI becomes increasingly important across analytics and marketing, we structured VANS’ GA4 implementation with clean schemas, consistent custom dimensions, and well governed event naming conventions. This creates a dataset that supports not only GA4 reporting, but also BigQuery exports, custom attribution modelling, advanced analysis, and future machine learning applications.

Throughout the engagement, we have worked closely with VANS’ internal teams to ensure GA4 is not only technically sound but genuinely useful across the wider organization. From marketing and eCommerce teams to senior leadership, our goal has been to make trusted data accessible, actionable, and valuable for decision making.

client Results

99%
data match accuracy
200+
custom events & parameters maintained

Over more than five years of collaboration, VIDEN has helped VANS maintain a robust and scalable measurement foundation through major changes in digital analytics, privacy regulations, and advertising technology.

The successful migration from Universal Analytics to GA4 was completed with 99% validated data integrity, ensuring business continuity and confidence in reporting. Today, more than 200 custom events and parameters are actively maintained across the implementation, supporting accurate measurement throughout the customer journey.

The introduction of server side tracking has significantly reduced data loss caused by browser restrictions and privacy changes, while enriched first party data signals have improved the quality of conversion data available for campaign optimization across platforms such as Meta and TikTok.

Most importantly, VANS now operates a measurement framework that is accurate, scalable, and future ready, giving teams across marketing, eCommerce, and leadership the confidence to make decisions based on trusted data.
